Printing Tiny Photos

May 11th, 2010

If you make photo jewelry, or have other uses for tiny photos, you might have wondered where on earth to get them printed – most photo processing places only offer a few standard sizes, and printer ink is expensive. So here’s the good news: for the price of a 4×6 print (anywhere from about a dime to about a quarter) you can print up a whole bunch of tiny images for use in your art projects.

Step 1: If you haven’t already, download Picasa. It’s Google’s free photo editing and organizing program.

Step 2: Open Picasa, find photos you want tiny prints of, and drag them with your mouse over to the lower left corner of the screen to add them to a list of selected images.

Step 3: Click the collage button.

Step 4: Select 4×6 as the size for your collage.

Step 5: Add or remove images until you are happy with the number, size, and shape of your photos. It doesn’t matter if you like the collage layout, since you’ll be cutting up the collage anyway to get your mini photo prints.

Step 6: Get your collage printed as a 4×6 photo.

Step 7: Cut up the collage carefully to get your tiny prints.

I’ll be posting a tutorial on how to use your lovely little pictures in a jewelry project soon over at my jewelry blog.
